The team at Centre for Leadership Performance are visiting schools and colleges across Cumbria to chat about Dream Placement and the opportunities that applying to be part of this unique leadership development programme offer. The deadline for applications is 28th October, and you can find out more about the process here.
Yesterday, Sarah chatted to students at Nelson Thomlinson School about Dream Placement. After meeting the students and teachers Sarah said “I had a great time chatting with year 12 students about their future aspirations and career choices. What a motivated ambitious group of young people! As you would expect, many don’t yet know what they want to do when they leave or how their interests translate into the sorts of careers available to them here in Cumbria. Dream Placement is a great way for businesses to connect with them and give them the chance to develop their confidence, knowledge, skills. It helps young people to make informed choices.”
On Monday, Nicola went to St Benedict’s Catholic High School. Mark Ritchie, Operations Manager at Wood, accompanied her to talk about Dream Placement from an employer perspective, and why leaders in forward-thinking businesses and organisations support the programme.
Wood Plc is one of the 30+ companies hosting students and supporting the Dream Placement 2020 programme. We are so grateful for every partnership as it gives 16-18 year olds the chance to gain life-changing experience of leadership and career opportunities, and to spend a week within Cumbria’s top businesses and organisations over February half-term.
It also aims to give every applicant the knowledge to succeed and be part of Cumbria Future Leaders. It can give them confidence which will build their future character, and the benefit of meeting other young people and business leaders with whom they can share experiences and aspirations as they move forward. Watch this space for more information on the development event for all applicants on 14th November at Energus.
Last year Ella Batey from Nelson Thomlinson and Travis Short from St Benedict’s were successful in gaining a dream placement with Story Contracting. You can find out why it made such a difference to them in this short video from last year. It really shows why it can have a significant impact.
A reminder about Dream Placement:
Organised and delivered by the Centre for Leadership Performance, the development programme is funded by businesses that share a commitment to invest in Cumbria’s young people. It brings together today’s and tomorrow’s leaders in a unique interactive environment where they can connect with host companies that benefit from a head start in engaging with and retaining Cumbria’s future leaders. The closing date is October 28th.
Almost 200 students are expected to apply, and hosts range from major players in Cumbria’s nuclear sector to small and medium-size specialist companies, local authorities, and health trusts. See our partners and supporters below.
Please do encourage young people to apply for this unique opportunity. Even for those not selected, there are significant benefits to being part of the leadership development programme that is available to all who apply.
